I have often pondered this question?

Here are my own basic thoughts on the complex subject.

Most websites I visit have some kind of adsense system running; I would estimate that some of these are making good money from the Google system. Certainly sites with over 1000 visitors per day should receive a small amount of revenue.

Generally I believe the adsense system is a good one, however like most things these days the adsense system has been misused by individuals who fully understand how search engines work; unfortunately these people have already made their money. These people have used many tactics in the past to raise their sites page ranking, thus ensuring more visitors, more visitors means more revenue from the system. These sites are generally kept open for a few months and then closed down, with the next one instantly opened up. This practice has been going on for years. The sites are even sold daily on EBay; I would imagine they are just about to be banned.

What normally happens when a few people misuse a system is it leads to others suffering, and in this case it has happened. Google is sandboxing new sites for longer. Saying this company had to act, they have now introduced the ‘Big Daddy’ update. This update has affected sites that have large numbers of irrelevant links or millions of irrelevant web pages. Unfortunately it has also affected the ranking of genuine businesses; hopefully this is just a temporary blip. My own opinion is the internet should be a level playing field for everyone; however I somehow doubt it ever will be.

I believe there is a place for adsense on most sites as long as it is discrete, well set up and does not look out of place, (fonts, colours etc), The main thing to think about is what do you want from your visitors. Most sites offer a product to potential customers. This causes the dilemma of balancing potential revenue from adsense against losing a potential customer, what I mean by this is, a visitor may be interested in your site, however you could lose them instantly to Google. This is why in my opinion is if your site has a product you are selling, you should never employ adsense on your homepage.

In conclusion I like the system, it is easy to set up and user friendly. I hope Google manage to filter out the unethical element who in the end will only spoil things for everyone.

Two of the most important axioms of Internet marketing are to know your advertising medium and know your audience. It is imperative to use ad designs that are effective while taking into account what you know about your audience.

Let’s first talk specifically about ad design. When using Google’s text ads you do not want to use borders. Many people believe the borders make their Adsense ads stand out, and they would be correct. Therein lays the problem. You do not want your ads to stick out like a sore thumb. You’re sending a signal that this is an ad and most people have an aversion to being solicited. Therefore their reaction, in a sense, is to dodge or ignore the ad. However, if your Adsense ads look like they’re a regular part of your web page visitors to your website are more apt to scan the ads and hopefully click on them.

What about ad color? This may insult your artistic proclivities, but stay with the regular Google ad colors which consists of the blue link and black text. The reason for using this color scheme is because people are conditioned to recognize the blue text as hyperlinks and that they should click on them. Because of the blue link, your visitor’s subconscious mind is telling them that some action needs to take place. If you use some other color like bright green or pink, you are disrupting your visitor’s normal surfing habits.

Also, stay with the white background. There’s a reason why we typically write on white paper – it’s easier to read. A colored background makes the ad stand out, which is not what you want. Remember, you want the ad to blend in with the rest of your web page. Furthermore, colored backgrounds make the ad more difficult to read. Now there has been some discussion in the marketplace as to the effectiveness of using red as your link color. If you wish to give it a try that is your prerogative, but you are encouraged to stay with blue.

Regarding ad design and color, you want your AdSense ads to blend well with your site. You want them to compliment your site and appear as if they’re providing additional content. You do not want them to appear as though they are contrasting with your website. When your AdSense ads contrast with your site it creates a condition known as ad blindness. That’s right, the more your ad stands out the less likely visitors will see it.

Now that we have addressed ad color let’s talk about ad size. The best performing ad sizes according to Google are the following:

336×280 large rectangle (four ads)

300×250 medium rectangle (four ads)

160×600 wide skyscraper (five ads)

When designing your website keep these facts in mind. However, you do not want to arbitrarily squeeze certain AdSense ads into your site just because they have been designated as the best performing. The other ad sizes have value as well. The purpose of revealing these facts is to let you now that the wider formats tend to perform better. The reason is because they are more readable.

Currently Google allows you to place three text ads on each page of your site. It is suggested that you strategically max out your allotment of ads on each page. But this raises the question of “Where?”

The content of your page determines the best location to place your AdSense ads. When placing your ads there are certain things to consider.

Where is my visitor’s attention likely to be focused?

How can I place ads into an area without getting the user’s way?

How can I keep the web page clean and uncluttered?

Google provides an ad placement schematic to which they refer as their “heat map.” This is a diagram of the most productive ad placements. Here are their most productive ad locations:

> Top of the web page.

> Bottom of the web page.

> Upper left-hand corner.

> In the middle-left of your page content.

This serves only as a guideline. Put your users first when deciding on ad location. Consider their viewing habits and what will be most interesting and useful to them.

If you follow these simple guidelines regarding your AdSense ads you will discover that you will have a better response to your ads and therefore a higher click through rate. Do not allow emotions and personal preferences to determine ad design, color and placement. Your goal is to make money from your AdSense ads. This step is one of the important elements of a successful blog, you need to get traffic to your blog. Without traffic, nobody will know you have something to offer. You need traffic so that people will learn about some stuff you promote to make you money.

How to get traffic? How to generate traffic to your blog?

There are many ways, some simple some complicated. Some involve money or lots of money and then some are free as you see there are various ways.

First the most effective way is write an article and submit it to article directory. And you only submit to those article directory that are high value PR sites which can drive traffic. I recommend you can start with Ezinearticles but there are still others that worth the try and get your blog rank high in Google searches.

The other method is press release, there are free press release site but also there are paid site like PRweb but it’s worth it. You can also get traffic through forums by being a forum member, it’s only a slow traffic if you do it through forum. Try going to WarriorForum and register an account. Build a reputation and you then have ways to post your blog url in the signature or offer people about what’s in your blog.

Other ways for effective traffic is Web2.0 (there’s a lot of ways how to do this and will be beyond the scoop of this article), comment posting and blackhat or grey hat methods (I won’t elaborate more on this methods because that’s another topic)

#7 Creating a Network

Using Old School Tactics with New Age Schemes

When it comes to the world of black hat techniques and black hat search engine optimization it seems that everybody and their mother is running to create new ways to optimize links and create the most traffic the black hat way. In all this haste to find the biggest, most efficient way to maximize your search engine results, people often forget some of the tried, tested and true methods. While Google itself starts to turn its attention on the newer more high profile black hat techniques, the company itself starts to forget about some of the older, low profile techniques. This is something you need to be ready to take advantage of if you want to have any true black hat success.

With the new anti-black hat techniques taking over, Google has been focusing a lot less on the use of doorway pages. The new algorithm used by Google has assigned more importance to the trust of a site rather than the domain of the page. For example, imagine that you have written and published an amazing article that has been working wonders as link bait. Well, if a reputable site like CNN.com writes a story and quotes your article, then under the new system used by Google, the article that appears on CNN will get a higher ranking than your site. While this may at first appear to be bad news, there are some important factors to this that need to be considered.

Now, due to this new algorithm it is obvious that creating doorway pages for new domains is essentially been rendered useless. While this may seem like a negative at first, it really isn’t. You can and should continue or start creating doorway pages and placing them on other people’s higher ranking and trusted domains. The most common example of domains that match these requirements are MSN and social networking pages. You can also use Sub-domains that are attached to hosting accounts that are relatively cheap and also sites such as Digg or ones that are similar.

It is possible to see user profiles from sites such as MySpace or Facebook show up in the top twenty of search engine fields even for keywords that are extremely competitive. You need to use the fact that these popular sites are so trusted to your advantage. A simple doorway page does not need to have any back-links and there is a vast array of places you can cram spam into with these doorway pages and essentially it is the main site that does all the advertising for you.

Now, it cannot be guaranteed how long that this algorithm made by Google will last so you need to make sure that you take advantage of this as soon and as often as you can. With very little time investing and no income whatsoever, you can place keyword maximized doorway pages on a number of popular domains and get instant recognition without any direct correspondence or linkage to your own website. You get all the benefits with very little of the risk.
